Hi, I’m Mike de Groot, a software engineer based in the Netherlands. I like small tools, clear writing, and explaining technology to people who’ve been told they “aren’t technical”. In my experience, once someone gets a plain explanation, they can usually do everything they wanted to do.
By day I work at Online Identity & Solutions, close to my hometown. In my free time I put that same knowledge to use online, here on this site, and offline for friends and family who get stuck with something on their computer or phone, or when they want to bring an idea to a digital life. It’s my way of giving something back to the online community that taught me most of what I know.

The problem I try to solve every day is how to work smarter, not harder. That usually means noticing a task I repeat too often and building a small script, automation, or self-hosted tool that takes it off my plate. Most of what you’ll find on the blog comes out of that habit: short, practical write-ups about tools I’ve built, setups I’ve tried, and mistakes I’d rather you didn’t repeat.
I aim for posts you can read in a few minutes and act on the same day. If a topic needs a lot of background, I’ll explain it from the ground up rather than assuming you already know the jargon.
